Alan Bruce Sawyer,
grandson of George and Nellie Peterson, passed away last Saturday. His parents
are Jack and Virginia Sawyer, 118 Betty Ann Drive, Willowdale, Onterio, Canada
M2n 1x4.
He was the nephew of
Quentin and Ginny Peterson, 4756 Clayton Road, Concord, CA

Alan Bruce
Sawyer died from lung cancer in the living room of his home about 10 pm on
Saturday June 8, 9 months after the initial diagnosis of lung cancer. Kim and
her sister were at his side.
A doctor had come somewhat earlier and said that Alan's vital functions were failing. He was placed on oxygen. About 7 pm Kim phoned us all to update us.
Later in the evening Alan took off the oxygen mask, sat looking like a philosopher, and 20 minutes later he died.
Sunday at 9 am a doctor came and signed the death certificate.
At 10 am Sunday morning, Robert, Peter, Carolyn, Jacquie, Virginia, and I arrived at the house.
Alan was lying on his back on the couch in the living room looking very peaceful.
Robert has taken charge and is helping Kim with all the arrangements.
There will be a funeral service and a celebration of Alan's life on Saturday June 15.
Last Sunday (June 2) Robert and Carolyn had hosted a family get-together at their condo, Alan, Kim, Peter, Jacquie, Virginia and I were there. Alan seemed weak but he had a beer, ate some food, and participated in the conversation.
In the middle of last week Alan and Kim went to Niagara-on-the-Lake, stayed in a hotel, and went to 2 plays at the Shaw Festival. (Alan slept through one of them.)
Alan continued to have some enjoyment from life up to the end despite the fact that he had been on pain killers for almost 9 months, had had surgery to remove a brain tumour, and had numerous radiation treatment.
